about
‘Remember me?’ is Ivohé’s own Valentine’s Day message to everyone who has found themselves in a situationship in which the other person constantly tries to tell you who you really are. In this song Ivohé takes back the power that is so often unbalanced in a relationship, particularly this one, in which she was not only criticised on her body but also her identity. Being of mixed ethnicities, Ivohé speaks on the fetishization of being a Latina (especially in the bedroom) and how people will cherry pick certain parts of your identity to their personal liking.
lyrics
You didn’t believe in me
You wanted me to stay small,
all to yourself
No room for growth
Yeah baby I wish I could take back the time that you stole from me
I wish I could just say that we were young baby
But how do you develop traits like that?
It’s not like you’ll outgrow em, uh huh
I barely knew who I was, who I wanted to be
so how can you tell me
Who I am, oh oh
[CHORUS]
All you wanted was a barbie doll (pretty and small)
All looks and a (body to die for)
No hips and no soul (no, no, no, no)
But I am I.V.O.H.E.
Remember me?
Remember
Me, me, me, me, yah
Remember x2
Me, me, me, me, yah I.V.O.H.E. remember me
You even told me, no
I’m no latina, oh?
But when we’re lying low
You’d beg me to speak spanish to you
Is that what you want, papi?
Pa eso te sirvo, (that is what I’m good for then)
una fantasía - en tu cabecita (A fantasy, in your head)
Yo creo que tu no sabes lo que me ‘tas pidiendo (I don’t think you know what ur asking of me)
Y yo creo que tu no sabes quien eres tu mismo (And I think you don’t even know, who you are)
Así que hijo (So boy...)
[CHORUS]
I am not a barbie doll, (pretty and small)
I am somebo- somebody to die for
I am, I am love
‘Cause I am I.V.O.H.E. - remember me?
